![]() ![]() ![]() Take Care: (8+ songs are great from this one) Nothing was the Same: (Tuscan Leather, Wu-Tang, Worst Behavior, from time, The Language) What a time to be alive: (Scholarships/Digital Dash/Jumpman/Change Locations) If you're reading this it's too late: (Nearly every song is great).Good Kid Maad City: (Entire album is great).Detroit: (by far his best production, great mixtape).Going to list a few rappers to have you check out, I won't go through every list as it would be way to absurdly long lol. Happy listening, I'm sure other folks on here can give you more artist recommendations. If you find yourself only listening to the chorus you're probably "doing it wrong". Once you understand the lingo you can enjoy the message at the same time as the beat which is where the genre shines. In general for "getting into" the music I find listening to whole albums and looking up lyrics to be the best policy. Kid Cudi might be more your style with some psychedelic flair (I like Indicud although the consensus I think is that people prefer his earlier stuff). Kendrick as others have said is also a good nod since his message and lyrics are clear and entertaining. Rap genius should also give you context which can be interesting too. I would say always look up lyrics on rap genius which will illuminate much more about the song rather than focusing on just the beat. The ability to hear and understand the words is critical to enjoying the music. Kanye is pretty easy to understand (perhaps with the exception of the raps where he had metal in his mouth from a car crash). I could go on forever, but this should be good to get you started. * Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly ~ Alright, King Kunta ![]() * ASAP Rocky - Long Live ASAP ~ PMW, LVL, Ghetto Symphony * Curren$y & Smoke DZA - The Stage EP ~ Gifts, Thursday Car, Bricks * Flatbush Zombies - D.R.U.G.S ~ Laker Paper, Mary Nothing Above Thee, Face-Off, Thug Waffle * Joey Bada$$ - 1999 ~ Don't Front, Survival Tactics, Snake$, Daily Routine Right Now (haven't listened to too much recent stuff, these are mostly last year): * Kendrick Lamar - Section.80 ~ Blow My High, HiiiPower, Fuck Your Ethnicity, Rigamortus * Blu & Exile - Below the Heavens ~ Below the Heavens Pt 1, Soul Amazin, Simply Amazin, My World Is. * Mos Def - Black on Both Sides ~ Mathematics, Hip Hop, Ms Fat Booty, Got, Do it Now Food ~ Kon Karne, Rapp Snitch Knishes, Hoe Cakes, Potholderz * Nas - Illmatic ~ listen to the entire thing (but check out everything by him, in my opinion he's the GOAT) Here are my top 5 albums right now & my top 5 albums of all time, a mix of old school and new school. ![]()
